Why Disklabs?

Disklabs are industry leaders in data recovery, digital forensics and data erasure since 1997.

Disklabs have dedicated data recovery and digital forensic laboratories and data erasure and asset management facilities all operating out of headquarters located in the Midlands, England. Since its formation, Disklabs has developed a number of specialist technical abilities and expertise which has led to an extensive presence in UK, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Disklabs provides services and training to criminal defence solicitors, law enforcement, government agencies and military intelligence in matters of criminal justice, national security and the recovery of evidential material. We work with corporates and the general public, helping in the recovery of data and forensic investigations.

Executive Team

Matthew Jones - Finance Director - Disklabs

Matthew Jones

As Director and Co-Founder of Disklabs, Matthew has over 17 years of experience working with data storage technology. He was integral in developing Disklabs ability to repair and refurbish hard disk drives which enabled the company to win a major IBM contract. Matthew has implemented a number of ISO Standards across all departments, focusing on security and quality. In 2010 he developed the first ever On-Site Data Recovery Training program. Matthew now spends a large amount of time advising and training Law Enforcement and Government Agencies in the Middle East, Far East and Africa on the latest developments in Digital Forensic and Data Recovery. Prior to founding Disklabs in 1997, Matthew worked in senior management for a large US corporate.

Simon Steggles - Director - Disklabs

Simon Steggles

As Director and Co-Founder of Disklabs, Simon has over 25 years of experience working with Hard disk drive technology and was instrumental in moving Disklabs into data recovery in 1997 and then digital forensics in 2004. Simon later developed the Faraday Bag range of products and redesigned of the range in 2014. Simon’s extensive knowledge of digital forensics and data recovery allows him to deliver training to solicitors and barristers in the complexities of digital forensics and data recovery. Over the years, he has developed a number of forensic analytical tools and worked closely in securing five substantial UK law enforcement contracts. Prior to founding Disklabs, Simon built and sold a HDD company with turn-over of over £7 million, and had been in the Royal Navy, specialising in communications for 6 Years.

Harlan Simpson - Operations Director - Disklabs

Harlan Simpson

As Operations Director, Harlan oversees all of the internal operations at Disklabs and heads the Data Recovery, Digital Forensics and Certified Data Erasure departments of Disklabs. Harlan was instrumental in the development of Disklabs On-Site Certified Data Erasure solution, which continues to be the only such solution outside of North America. Harlan’s current responsibilities include delivery of the On-site Certified Data Erasure service across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Far East as well as managing the successful delivery of 5 digital forensics contracts to UK Police forces. Prior to Joining Disklabs In 2005, Harlan had spent 5 years managing one of the largest asset management contracts in Europe.

Job Description:  Experienced Digital Forensic Analyst / Examiner

The Role:

Disklabs are looking for new team members with strong Computer Forensics skills and experience. The role requires the undertaking of data acquisition, complex digital investigations and the production of clear and concise reports.

We have an Experienced, Flexible and Dedicated forensics team enabling us to meet the demands of the digital forensic contracts we deliver. We are looking to add dynamic and enthusiastic individuals to our existing team.

The Individual:

•A team player with an aptitude for investigation and problem solving, with an eye for detail

•Strong report writing and verbal communication skills at all levels

•Case management and courtroom experience

•MSc/BSc in relevant discipline and/or Commercial experience (EnCE an advantage)

Required skills and experience:

•Experienced in the use of Computer Forensic Software (Encase, FTK, IEF etc.)

•Minimum of 2 years Commercial, Legal and Police casework experience

•Excellent understanding of IT and Network Technology

•Fully conversant with ACPO Guidelines, ISO 9001, 27001 and 17025 Standards

2007

Disklabs MD, Simon Steggles is featured on Tonight with Trevor MacDonald, filmed at the Disklabs Digital Forensics facility in Staffordshire, UK, demonstrating the ease with which a password-protected hard disk can be accessed with the right equipment.

2006

Disklabs begins to provide forensic services to Ernst & Young and EMC.

2005

BBC news investigates what happened when Disklabs buys 100 hard drives on eBay and examines the state of their data, bringing the importance of proper data erasure procedures into the public eye.

Disklabs is awarded ISO27001 accreditation – Information Security Management.

2004

2004 Disklabs mobile phone and computer forensics laboratory is completed.

2003

Disklabs launches its forensic data recovery service catering to law enforcement [forensically repairing damaged exhibits].

2002

1999

Disklabs becomes the first approved data recovery partner to UK Western Digital, a relationship which still stands to date.

1CT launches its data recovery solutions for law enforcement, local authorities, corporate clients and home users under the Disklabs brand.

1998

1CT wins the IBM contract to erase data and recertify hard disk drives throughout Europe.

1997

1st Computer Traders Ltd (1CT) is established in 1997 as an IT asset management business.
