Degaussing is the process of permanently destroying the data stored on magnetic media such as hard drives, floppy disks, and magnetic tape. The degaussing process leaves the data with nowhere to reside on the hard disk drive, thereby rendering it securely erased and unrecoverable. This also renders the hard disk drive un-usable.
