What should I do now?
- Turn the power off on the computer or appliance containing the hard drive or data. Do not use the Windows shutdown procedure to power down.
- Do not perform any further procedures on the affected media or hard drive, and don't let anyone try to help no matter what tools they may want to use.
- Data recovery is specialised and further activity on the disk can add complexity to the process.
- Under no circumstances run Scandisk or similar software. Incorrect use of these programs can often complicate the data recovery process!
- Contact us on 0800 DATA SOS (0800 3282 767) anytime for further advice.
- If possible, have the hard drive or other media removed from your PC by a competent IT professional . Wrap the storage device/media in an anti-static bag if available. Surround the equipment/media with foam, bubble wrap, free flow or equivalent. Ensure that your equipment/media is sent via a recorded source, (courier or registered mail), to minimise the risk of it getting lost during delivery.

Download a video of a drive in our clean facility which has a head crash, the drive still tries to seek.
We have some information on the new Cabir virus, a sneaky application that infects mobile phones.
